Price Increase for Top Level Domains

Written by Admin

TLDR; Pricing for .com, .net, and .org is increasing to $13.95/yr, effective immediately.

When we started serve-you.net back in 2001, we only offered .com, .net, & .org domain names, and usually just as part of a hosting package. A few months later, we started selling stand alone domain registrations, with the inclusion of .biz, .info, .name, and .us. We had a single price of $14.95/yr for all of these for several years, which at the time was very competitive. As more domain registrars came online, they began to offer much better pricing to resellers. We were able to secure lower prices, so we in turn lowered our selling price to $12.95/yr across the board. As we added additional (g)TLD’s, we kept these prices on the “core” set of TLD’s we offered. While the wholesale prices did change a little, we were able to absorb those costs, since we had a fair margin in place. However, those little increases became bigger, and more frequent. To the point now where they are increasing the prices annually by 7-10%.

Note, that this is at the wholesale price level. Meaning, the amount the registry operator is selling the domains to the various registrars. Those registrars in turn, add their markup for the cost of doing business. As a reseller, we also add a small markup for our cost of business. Since we’re now at the point where our margin barely covers processing fees, we are forced to increase our prices. For the sake of transparency, the latest increase on .com was .80 .net was .90 wholesale. You can expect a bit more than that next year, since it is a percentage based increase. So unfortunately, we’ll be forced to increase pricing again. For this year, we’re just increasing the price by a dollar across the three TLD’s. Next year, we’ll re-evaluate the pricing, and likely set them individually.
